FREQUENTLY ASKED DENTAL QUESTIONS

YOU ASK,

WE ANSWER

Dr. Browning loves the fact that every day brings her an opportunity to teach her patients more about their oral health so that they can make the right choices for protecting their smiles. The more you know, the healthier your teeth are likely to be. On this page, you will find the answers to questions that tend to be on a lot of patients’ minds. If you can not find what you are looking for or think of a follow-up question you would like answered, give us a call.

Q. How many times should I visit a dentist during the year?

Most of the time, you will only need a dental checkup once every six months – in other words, twice a year. During these visits, we will clean the areas of your teeth where plaque and tartar have been built up, and we will look for signs of dental issues that we can address right away before they become severe and harder to treat. Specific preventive care plans will be determined at your first dental visit at Castle Lake Dental.

Q. What if I’m afraid of dental care?

You are not the first person to be nervous about walking into a dentist’s office – far from it! We are used to helping patients of all ages overcome their anxiety so that they can sit back and relax while we take care of their smiles. Depending on the severity of your anxiety, you might receive relatively mild nitrous oxide sedation or far more powerful options such as oral conscious sedation and IV sedation.

Q. Can I still be treated even if I haven’t been to the dentist in a long time?

We understand that there are many reasons why you were unable to see a dentist in a while. With that being said, we highly encourage you to set up an appointment with us and undergo the proper exams to better determine which treatments are best for you.

Q. Do I need to have a toothache checked right away?

Not all toothaches are necessarily emergencies; for example, if a piece of food is caught between your teeth, the pain will stop once it has been removed via dental floss. That said, tooth pain that does not go away or grows severe should never be taken lightly; call us immediately if the pain does not go away after 48 hours.

Q. Are braces my only option for straightening teeth?

Not anymore! With clear aligner treatment, adults who are only looking to make slight corrections to their teeth can look forward to an orthodontic treatment where they do not have to worry about their appearance or avoiding their favorite foods. You can schedule a consultation with us to see if ClearCorrect is a viable option in your case.

Q. Is it an emergency if my child’s baby tooth is knocked out?

It depends on the circumstances. The trauma that knocked the tooth loose could also have caused further damage to the permanent teeth beneath the gums. We will need to examine your child’s mouth right away. Sometimes we might be able to act as if the tooth came out normally, while in other cases we will have to take steps to prevent their other teeth from drifting out of place before the permanent teeth are ready to come in.

Q. Will you take dental insurance?

We know how important dental insurance is to many families, and we are happy to accept a variety of plans. To ask about your own plan and what kind of benefits you can look forward to, you can call our helpful staff today.
